How to Read Your Kamstrup Digital Water Meter
Perryville Utility District uses Kamstrup ultrasonic digital water meters. Meters are read monthly by our staff using electronic equipment, but customers can view usage anytime on the meter display.
1.Waking Up the Display
The meter display cycles automatically. If the screen is blank:
• Shine a flashlight on the display, or
• Briefly cover the solar panel to wake it up.
2. The Big Numbers = Your Water Usage
The large numbers on the screen show your total water usage in gallons.
Example: 000125432 gallons. This number shows the total amount of water that has passed through your meter since it was installed.
3. Our staff drive by each month and electronically record the reading using a tablet.
Customers are billed for water used from the 1st of the previous month to the 1st of the current month. Your bill is based on the difference between those monthly readings.
Example of Monthly Usage:
Reading on May 1: 120,000 gallons
Reading on June 1: 125,000 gallons
Water used during the billing period: 5,000 gallons
4. The Small Numbers = Leak Indicator (Old Spinner Replacement)
The small numbers at the bottom of the display replace the old-style spinning leak detector found on older meters. These small numbers move whenever water is flowing through the meter. If all water inside and outside your home is turned off and the small numbers are still moving, this usually means there is a leak somewhere on your property.
Common causes:
• Running or leaking toilet
• Dripping faucet
• Hose left on
• Irrigation system leak
• Underground water leak
5. How to Check for a Leak at Home
Turn off all water inside and outside your home. Wait 10–15 minutes. Look at the meter again. If the small numbers are still moving, water is still flowing somewhere.
Important Reminder
• Meters are read monthly by our staff using electronic equipment
• Customers are billed from the 1st of the previous month to the 1st of the current month
• The meter measures all water passing through the service line
